What we do
Imagine having to start again for some reason and then imagine having to do that with no or very limited funds – What would you be grateful for?
We started Labyrinth Appeals after running a project named “One For The Wall (OFTW)” at the Labyrinth Holistic Cafe which allowed people to donate some money for different items off the menu which would be put on a post-it and stuck to the wall. This was started when the cafe opened and run ever since.
These items on the wall could be available to anyone who for whatever reason cannot afford to but it themselves. We realise this could be open to abuse and are working with local support agencies to lessen the potential of that happening. We also have the ultimate decision as to who gets a wall gift however we promise not to become judgemental and sincerely hope we get it right!!
What we are doing now:
A food bank was started to help provide for people followed by a “Help Bank” providing the basics for folk starting again with little or nothing.
We collect various donations from the public and a portion of the takings from the cafe are used to purchase food to keep it running as well as working with organisations such as fareshare which helps provide some foods from supermarkets.
How we do it
We work with several local support and rehabilitation services in the Stockton area however if you work in a sector that you think would benefit from our “banks” then please get in touch for more details of how we make this work.
The food comes from several sources:
- Donations from the public
- A portion of the shops takings used to purchase food to keep it running
- Fareshare scheme with Tesco
We are doing something for womankind via Labyrinth Appeals in Stockton on Tees.
I would like you to dig out any old unused or unloved handbags that you may have and put in any of the following:
- Baby wipes
- Sanitary Towels
Imagine you have literally nothing, you are starting again from scratch – maybe you have fled a domestic abuse situation – you have been sanctioned, whatever the reason you are broke… and YOUR PERIOD ARRIVES!!!… I think the rest is self explanatory.
If you don’t have a bag to donate, then an item or two to go in one would be awesome (I’ve been collecting bags for a while so have several empty bags waiting to be filled).
If you don’t live close, why not organise something similar close by in our name? The aim is to distribute bags to ladies locally who need them and sadle there are more than you would think…
Thank you for reading and PLEASE donate whatever you can.
